The Gresham Veterans Memorial Hall was built in 1940. It was built through
public funds and through the efforts of the Gresham VFW (then Post 4032), The
American Legion, and other veteran's organizations.
During it's long history the hall has not only served as a meeting place for
Veteran's organizations, it has also been a Police Station, a Fire Station, and
currently serves as the Gresham Annex of the Multnomah County Courthouse.
With a new courthouse under construction in the Rockwood neighborhood,
Multnomah County has plans the vacate Veterans Memorial Hall in 2012.
While the City of Gresham will continue to provide the building to VFW Post 180
and American Legion Post 30, the remainder of the building will be vacant.
This leaves your VFW Post 180 with 4 choices:
1) Remain it the current building. While this is the most cost effective, there
are significant structural issues with the building. If any repairs are made, it
will need to be brought up to code.
2) Re-purpose the existing building to better serve the veterans in the
surrounding communities. A conservative estimate to bring the building up to
code in order to re-purpose it is in excess of $2,000,000.00
3) Lease an existing building or store-front
4) Build a new VFW Hall.
VFW Post 180 NEEDS your help. Please consider donating to our building fund.
We also seek the input of the community before we make a decision on a new home.
